The client wanted an understated house that reflected its history and had a friendly aspect to the street. They also wanted a sustainable approach to the design.

The sustainable approach included: reuse of the existing house where possible, energy efficient lighting, natural ventilation, heat pump technology for hot water and in slab heating, high insulation values and double glazing, rainwater harvesting for irrigation and good acoustics throughout.

This project won an NZIA Local award in 2012.
