Grey Base Hospital

The new Grey Base Hospital on the West Coast is taking shape. 

The project incorporates perioperative suite, in-patient unit, Emergency Department, Integrated family health centre, imaging and support. CCM Architects and Jacobs assisted the Ministry of Health and West Coast District Health Board to formulate a solution that is sustainable, affordable and supports an evolving model-of-care incorporating creative health service delivery.

Internally, the functional planning required innovative sharing of space, overlap zones and data based briefing to provide a sustainable and efficient long term solution for the Coast. 

The design of exterior and selection of cost effective durable materials suitable for the highly corrosive West Coast environment was a significant challenge. CCM has worked with a facade engineer through the design phases. 

The new hospital is critical infrastructure for the West Coast and is a hybrid of IL3 and IL4 constructions.
