Wanaka House

Design on some projects is a labour of love for both the builder and architect. This one is different as it is also an epic journey.

Having previously built a high quality house with the builder, the relationship continued to the next phase - the design of his new house(s).

Wanting to maximise the opportunities on the site, the builder required two dwellings but these had to be staged in order to build them part time.

Some years later the whole project is coming to fruition. The first house in the front was completed a few years ago, and more recently the rear house where the builder is now living.

Designed to accommodate the expansive views, all day sun, privacy and the very low height control planes.  Resource consenting was no easy task, however with the building now completed to this stage, it is clear that the opportunities to maximise the sites potential have been realised.

Clean simple designed forms with unfussy detailing, along with a complex structure (new codes after the Christchurch Earthquake) and a relentless eye for ensuring the detailing was to the best quality has its rewards.

Now for the landscaping.
