Shed 11 - NZ Portrait Gallery

The New Zealand Portrait Gallery is located on Wellington’s waterfront in a characterful brick building with a Historic Places Trust, classification 1.

CCM’s challenge was to seismically upgrade the building to at least 70% of Code.


Full project info

The seismic work was achieved by post tensioning all the exterior brickwork and tying into a new capping truss. This tricky structural work was all hidden, and the historic visual appearance unaltered.

CCM also designed the upgrade of interiors with a new entry, admin and storage areas. This refreshed gallery is open to the public with ever changing exhibitions.
