This project was a Wellington City Council Community Services initiative.
The Newlands Community Centre was specifically designed to meet the needs of the Community, which has a relatively youthful population with a diverse cultural base.
The centre was designed to provide a pivotal centrepiece for Newlands.
The formal approach was for the building to become an identifier for the community, a building that is memorable, and is interesting for the users and visitors to the centre.
Flexibility is a key element and the spaces within the building have good ceiling heights to accommodate a wide range of activities.
